You are not going to believe this......

I think it's some kind of bad dream!!!! We picked up our new Honda CR-V last Saturday!! Last night we drove to Wichita Falls for dinner and left to go to the Royal Theater in Archer City (from 'The Last Picture Show' fame) to see 'Funny Girl' when right before our eyes IT HAPPENED!!!! We were first at the traffic light when someone ran the light - (this part is an error - see under comments for the 'rest of the story') ON A MOTORCYCLE (OUCH) and we heard screeching and metal and saw a body flying through the air and land on the pavement about 15 or 20 feet in front of our car. A red pickup spun around out of control and came to rest on the front drivers side bumper of our BRAND NEW Honda!!!!
Close up of front bumper and wheel well....

The kid on the cycle had a pretty bad compound fracture and crushed ankle with split skin down his foot - showing the bone in his ankle! He may have other injuries, but that was the most apparent! Well, we did make the show which was enjoyable, but now we have to have the CR-V fixed for the trip to Phoenix.... and my little girl is due to have her baby in 6 (SIX) DAYS!!! Hopefully it will be an easy fix for us.... Not so for the young cyclist!!!

I'm just glad to hear that it wasn't caused by you guys! I feel bad for the motorcyclist, but then again, how stupid can you be when you know you're vulnerable AND run a light... idiot.

As it turns out, the young man is from our church in Olney!!!! He's 17 and a senior this year. He just picked up his bike up THAT day, and was the innocent traveler! We've heard more, and it turns out the red pick-up that hit us was the one that ran the light and hit a Hummer (driven by someone I met at Lipscomb Chevrolet, where Dad goes for service with his pick-up)which in turn hit Jody. Amazingly, his only serious injury was his right lower leg which was broken in 3 places. He had surgery Friday night to put a steel rod in but couldn't get it past the 3rd fracture. He may have another surgery tomorrow. His helmet saved him from head injury. The fact that the Hummer took the major impact probably saved him!! He's lucky like me!! Seeing it happen and knowing that he's OK above his right knee is a miracle! He was a starter on the football team here and ready to start training next week (I think)... needless to say, I seriously doubt he'll play football again!

Not a good day for new vehicles...glad you're OK and hope the young man heals quickly! I trust you're a grandma by now,or soon. Things are like "Groundhog Day" out here in Delaware.

Love to all,
Cindy
